Since publishing our first sustainability report in July 2011, we have been eager to show some real-life examples of how sustainability can be incorporated in the daily running of a business. We have come across many good examples of sustainable practices in bakeries, many of which are well worth replicating.

Our practical handbook "Sustainable Baking" was created in cooperation with Agrifood Consulting GmbH. Based on a large selection of interviews with nine different bakeries. It contains an exciting assortment of completely different concepts.

The featured bakeries are run by contrasting personalities with extremely individual approaches. However, they all have one common goal, and that is to contribute to a more sustainable environment and to accept their social responsibility. It soon becomes clear that the best recipe for success is to base our commitment to sustainability on the principle that “small steps speak louder than words”.
The stories told demonstrate very well that this approach is guaranteed to bring results.

Our handbook is designed to inspire its readers to spare a thought for tomorrow’s baking trade whilst encouraging the sector to shape its future pro-actively. After all, sustainability conceals a diversity of new business opportunities which can also have a pleasant impact on our wallets.
